A 37 year old Atlantic County woman has been charged with causing the drug overdose of a seven month old child. Authorities announced this week that Shannon Devine has been charged in connection with the crime; the child has since recovered following two hospitalizations. Devine is from Atlantic City.

A 21 year old man was found shot to death inside a car in Atlantic City on New Year’s day. The victim was found at the intersection of Lincoln and Ohio avenues. Authorities say he had multiple gunshot wounds.
Pleasantville Police say a teenager from Atlantic City was shot twice, on two successive days. Police say 19 year old Mark Fuller was found shot on Sunday afternoon, and again on Monday afternoon. One suspect was arrested in the second shooting, Fuller is expected to survive.
A 26 year old North Jersey man was shot during a New Year’s party in Ventnor. City police say it happened early Tuesday morning in the beach block of Vassar Square avenue. The man was transported to a local hospital for the injury.

New Jersey’s new ban on smoking on public beaches takes affect later this month. Starting on January 16th, it will be illegal for anyone to smoke on a beach. Governor Murphy has left it up to towns to decide how the smoking ban will be enforced.
The new year brings a new, slightly higher minimum wage for the Garden State. The new minimum wage is now $8.85 an hour, up from $8.60 an hour. New Jersey is among 20 states who are increasing the wage this week.
An appellate court has ruled that New Jersey’s graduation requirements are not legal. The court ruled that the state cannot force students to pass two exams before graduating high school. The new regulation will take effect at the end of this month. Currently, the state offers two tests, Algebra I and English.
