Consumption is less, so gasoline prices continue to fall in New Jersey. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that gasoline prices in Cape May County average $2.35 per gallon this week, which remains 16 cents higher than the national average. Gasoline prices locally have dropped by six cents per gallon this week.
Upper Township’s Planning Board meeting scheduled for Thursday evening has been cancelled. The Township has also cancelled recreation programs in the community until further notice.
Cape May announced on Wednesday that council meetings in the city will continue as scheduled, until further notice. Primary election candidates for county offices are requested to call ahead to file their petitions, and arrangements will be made. All Planning and Zoning board meetings are suspended until further notice, along with all advisory committee/commission/team meetings.
Wildwood Crest has cancelled three upcoming events, including its popular Borough-wide yard sale in May. Also cancelled in the Crest are the Mayor’s wellness walk, and the Crest Beach Sweep. There will be another beach sweep event in late October.
West Cape May has cancelled four meetings for April. The upcoming environmental commission, planning/zoning, shade tree commission, and historical preservation commission meetings have all been cancelled by the Borough.
Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian announced that the city’s council meeting for next week has been cancelled. There is no word of a makeup date for the meeting scheduled for March 26th. City Hall has now been closed by the city, along with all recreational facilities.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew announced that he is in support of the proposed coronavirus relief package. Van Drew says he would like to see financial support for individuals to keep them solvent, and loan forgiveness for small businesses. Van Drew is also asking for evictions and foreclosure moratoriums.
The mayors of the four Wildwood communities have issued a joint statement asking non-residents to stay home at their primary residences, for now. The mayors say with many businesses closed and concerns of stress on food services and pertinent supplies, the non-residents would be helping the shore by staying home, away from the barrier islands. …
