New Jersey Senator Cory Booker is running for President. Booker announced Friday morning on social media that he will seek the democratic nomination for president. Booker is 49 years old, and says “we can build a country where no one is forgotten, no one is left behind”.
Snow showers are possible this afternoon, which may bring an inch or two of snow to our region. The National Weather Service predicts cold temperatures for one more day with the chance of some light snow late morning or early afternoon. No heavy snow is expected; temperatures tomorrow will rebound to near 40 degrees.
Funeral services will be held Friday morning as the Assumption Church in Wildwood Crest for Jim Leahy. Leahy passed away following a battle with cancer. Leahy was best known in the area for being one of the many stars of the Wildwood Catholic basketball program, and for operating the successful Leahy Sports in Rio Grande.
Funeral services will be held tomorrow in Cape May Court House for Theodore Croitor, the former owner of Croitor Feed in Cape May Court House. Croitor passed away at his home at the age of 73. He was involved in many local civic organizations.
Middle Township is retaining its Chief Financial Officer for another four years. The Township announced that Susan Anastasio-Quinones will keep her position in the finance department. She began her career in Middle Township seven years ago as a deputy in the department.
Fire caused damage to a home that was unoccupied in Ocean City on Thursday. Fire officials say the blaze occurred in a residential home on North Street. Smoke and fire was coming from the roof when firemen arrived. There were no injuries.
The minimum wage is going up this summer in New Jersey. The New Jersey Legislature approved a new bill that will increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024. This summer the wage will increase to $10 an hour, and go up by one dollar each year until it hits the $15 mark.
A girl scout troop leader from central New Jersey was removed from her troop after police determined that $1,000 in girl scout cookie sales was not actually stolen by someone else. Just in time for the Super Bowl, there’s more sports betting in Atlantic City. Both Resorts and the Hard Rock casinos have unveiled new sports betting platforms before the big game. Resorts kicked off an online sports betting program that is expected to rival more traditional sports betting outfits.
