One of Ocean City’s biggest nights of the year is New Year’s Eve and the city is rolling out fireworks and live music as part of its event. The Duprees and the Trammps will be performing live during the First Night celebration. Some rides on the city’s boardwalk will also be open for business.
Monday’s action at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic featured a very good game with two local teams. Pleasantville boys knocked off Wildwood, 77-73 at the Wildwoods Convention Center in the Bernie McCracken Memorial Bracket. Wildwood will take on St. Mark’s in a consolation game Tuesday at 11am, the final day of the six day event.
New Jersey State Police will be looking for drunk drivers Tuesday night. Police say there will be 46 additional state troopers working Tuesday evening and they will focus on speeding, drunk driving and aggressive driving. Last year, there were two fatal accidents in New Jersey during the holiday; both drivers were impaired.
A 27 year old Millville man who allegedly killed his wife, then set her car on fire, will remain in jail. A judge ruled that John Jacobs will stay behind bars as his case moves through the courts. Jacobs is accused with the murder of Sahlena Blackwell-Jacobs shortly before Christmas.
Peebles stores in Middle and Upper townships will be closing soon, and will be replaced by Gordman’s, a chain that will make its entrance into Cape May County. The Philadelphia Eagles playoff game against the Seattle Seahawks has been scheduled. The NFL will play the game on Sunday at 4:40pm, and the game will be televised on NBC Network. ESPN says the Eagles’ chances of reaching the Super Bowl? 4.8 percent.
The Philadelphia Eagles announced that tickets will go on sale for next weekend’s playoff game at the Linc, at 12 Noon on Monday via Ticketmaster. The availability is to be determined as season ticket holders get first crack at playoff tickets; whatever is left over will be available at Noon Monday.

The United States Coast Guard airlifted a man who was experiencing severe abdominal pain off a cruise ship near Little Egg Inlet Saturday night. The Guard says the man was on board the Anthem of the Seas ship when the illness struck. The man was transported to a hospital for treatment.
The Wildwood Catholic boys basketball team captured the Frank McAlarnen Memorial Championship Saturday evening at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic.
