A second political party switch in the 2nd District congressional race next year. Former republican Robert Turkavage has switched to the democratic party, and now he’s seeking his party’s endorsement to run for office next year. Turkavage is a former FBI agent and lives in Atlantic County.

The cost of a day at the beach is going up in Stone Harbor in 2020. The municipality announced on its website that the price for in-season beach tags sold after May 31st will rise to $30. Pre-season purchases will save five dollars.

One of Ocean City’s biggest nights of the year is New Year’s Eve and the city is rolling out fireworks and live music as part of its event. The Duprees and the Trammps will be performing live during the First Night celebration. Some rides on the city’s boardwalk will also be open for business.
Monday’s action at the Boardwalk Basketball Classic featured a very good game with two local teams. Pleasantville boys knocked off Wildwood, 77-73 at the Wildwoods Convention Center in the Bernie McCracken Memorial Bracket. Wildwood will take on St. Mark’s in a consolation game Tuesday at 11am, the final day of the six day event.
New Jersey State Police will be looking for drunk drivers Tuesday night. Police say there will be 46 additional state troopers working Tuesday evening and they will focus on speeding, drunk driving and aggressive driving. Last year, there were two fatal accidents in New Jersey during the holiday; both drivers were impaired.
A 27 year old Millville man who allegedly killed his wife, then set her car on fire, will remain in jail. A judge ruled that John Jacobs will stay behind bars as his case moves through the courts. Jacobs is accused with the murder of Sahlena Blackwell-Jacobs shortly before Christmas.
Peebles stores in Middle and Upper townships will be closing soon, and will be replaced by Gordman’s, a chain that will make its entrance into Cape May County.
