Beach boxes have turned in to big business on the Wildwood beach. City officials say the four foot by four foot storage systems saw revenue increase by 42 percent during the past summer season. Wildwood has an agreement with Wildwood Crest on the boxes, and may pursue a similar agreement with North Wildwood.
Local democratic lawmakers were in Wildwood Monday to push for a package of new bills that benefit veterans in southern New Jersey. The new measures would expand the property tax deduction to all New Jersey veterans, and allow vets to get special license plates. Another bill would help homeless veterans obtain housing.
A pedestrian was struck by a taxi cab Saturday night on Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City. City police say a 60 year old man was struck by a car while crossing the street. His injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

A humpback whale was found dead at Island Beach State Park over the weekend. Experts say the animal was killed by a boat propeller. The whale was first reported injured near Barnegat and was found dead on the beach the following day.
The United States Coast Guard medevaced a man from a cruise ship approximately 20 miles off the coast of Atlantic City this weekend. The 44 year old man suffered abdominal pain and needed medical attention. Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City hoisted the man on board a chopper and took him to shore.

The Coast Guard cutter Angela McShann will be commissioned on Saturday. The Coast Guard base in Cape May will hold the ceremony to welcome the cutter to the fleet. It’s named after McShann, who was the first African American woman to be elevated to Master Chief in the Coast Guard.
