A discount retail store with seven locations in Cape May County is offering senior-only shopping hours. Dollar General announced that it will dedicate the first hour of business to seniors. Store hours will be cut in the evening so stocking of shelves can occur.
If you need employment, Amazon is looking for you. NJ.com reports that Amazon will be hiring 100,000 people nationwide to work at fulfillment centers due to the high demand created by online shopping. Amazon operates ten fulfillment centers in New Jersey.
The slot machines have been turned off, the playing cards put away, and Atlantic City casinos are in lockdown today. The casinos closed at various times Monday evening to comply with a state order to shut down for the coronavirus. Signs have been placed at casinos telling patrons they are not open.
Lower Township has closed Township Hall to the public, and is closing the municipal court. Mayor Frank Sippel announced that all group activities and programs are also cancelled at the recreation and Millman centers until further notice.
The Lower Cape May Regional School District has announced breakfast and lunch distribution to students who receive a free or reduced meal. They can be picked up between the hours of 9am and Noon at six different locations; a bus will be provided in three locations to serve the Wildwood area.
The Middle Township School District is offering prepacked breakfast and lunch to locations in the community for students who are eligible. Superintendent Dave Salvo says seven locations have been chosen; meals can be picked up between the hours of Noon-1:30pm at any of the locations listed on the school district’s website.
New Jersey now has three confirmed deaths from coronavirus. Governor Phil Murphy says an elderly man who was treated at the Hackensack University Medical Center for the virus has passed away.
The Cape May County Clerk’s office is closed to the public through the end of the month. The County announced that the office will be staffed internally, but those seeking passports, notaries, and marriage ceremonies are asked to call for an appointment sometime in the future.
Wildwood Crest, Avalon, and other communities in Cape May County are restricting access by the public to municipal buildings. The move is being made in order to slow down the spread of coronavirus in the State. Both communities will restrict public access on Wednesday; some other towns begin as early as Tuesday.
