Police in Hamilton Township are reporting a spike in car burglaries. Police say there have been more reports of burglaries, and they are all easily preventable by locking doors, parking in well lit areas, and not leaving valuables in plain view.
He wasn’t missing after all. The United States Coast Guard reports that a kite surfer who was missing during the holiday weekend contacted the Coast Guard and says he’s fine. The surfer said his kite malfunctioned, so it cut it loose, and paddled ashore to return home.
State Senator-elect Mike Testa will not vote in favor of a bill that would use state tax money to fund repairs to the Wildwood boardwalk. The Chief Chaplain of the New Jersey State Police passed away on Thanksgiving Day. Reverend Monsignor Phillip Lowery served as chaplain for nearly a quarter century, providing prayers and benedictions for State Police class graduations. He also comforted law enforcement personnel in their time of need.
Some chain retailers got a start on the Black Friday shopping day on Thursday night. Middle Township Police were at the Walmart in Rio Grande Thursday night as huge crowds packed the discount retailer. Some other chain stores in the county, including Five Below, Ross, and dollar stores were also open for business Thanksgiving evening.
The United States Coast Guard was searching Thanksgiving night for a kite surfer who was seen off the coast of Ocean City. Authorities say they received a 911 call regarding the individual who was seen drifting out to sea late Thursday afternoon.
The Anchor Bowl trophy stays in Middle Township for another year. In a game broadcast live on WCZT, Middle Township blanked cross county rival Lower Cape May, 21-0. Middle Township finishes the season with a 5-5 record, Lower Cape May dropped its eighth game of the year.
The Atlantic City Blackjacks indoor football team is one and done. The Arena Football League filed for Chapter 7 bankruptcy protection, meaning the league has folded. Atlantic City fielded a football team for the first time last year, and ended their only season winning four games.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office announced that 31 year old Jerry Shields has been indicted on charges including sexual assault and witness tampering from a case in Avalon. Authorities say Shields allegedly sexually assaulted an individual last October; additional information was obtained this year that elevated the charge to include witness tampering.
57 year old Frederick W. Klawitter III of Vineland was arrested in Wildwood Crest, charged with possessing meth and marijuana. The arrest took place on Sunday during a traffic stop on New Jersey Avenue. Klawitter was released on a summons.
