The Lower Township Police Department has promoted Robert Hartman Jr. to Sergeant First Class. The promotion was made during Monday night’s Township Council meeting. Hartman was hired in September, 1994.
A Wildwood downtown wine and jazz festival scheduled for this weekend is off. Officials announced that the event has been cancelled by the promoter with no make up date. Still on…a Friday evening performance by the Cape Shore Jazz Orchestra at the Byrne Plaza Friday, at 7:30pm.
National Night Out will be celebrated countywide in many communities this evening. Towns including Avalon, Wildwood, Sea Isle City, Lower Township, and Middle Township will all have various activities for families this evening. Avalon’s event precedes its weekly free beach movie. Most events are underway by 6pm.
The Lower Township Council approved a non-binding referendum question that will ask voters if they should foot the bill for an aquatic center at the Cape May Airport. The price tag, $10 million. A 68 year old man from Millville was killed over the weekend in a pedestrian-motor vehicle accident. Millville Police say Nykola Kudla lost his life Saturday morning when he was walking across West Main Street. A car entered the shoulder of the road and fatally struck Kudla.
A big crowd is expected at Middle Township municipal hall for a discussion Monday evening on medical marijuana. A company called INSA has proposed a medical marijuana cultivation and distribution facility to be located at the site of the former LaMonica Brands processing plant on Indian Trial Road. The presentation will begin at 6:00pm.
Cape May Police have released three photos of suspects who are connected to a shoplifting incident that occurred on July 30th. Police say one of the suspects stole a pair of sunglasses from a sunglass store. Police are hoping that someone will recognize one of the three parties involved in the crime.
An arrest warrant is out for 19 year old Shane O’Connor of Mantua. O’Conner is wanted by Wildwood Police for kicking a machine at an arcade on Morey’s Pier and causing $500 worth of damage to the machine. Social media tips led police to a positive identity; O’Connor has been unable to be located.
