Cape May could be on the verge of hiring a new city manager. Council will hold a special meeting early Tuesday afternoon in closed session that will discuss the vacant position. Neil Young has vacated the position, but remains the city’s chief financial officer.
North Wildwood will be holding a tax sale on December 27th. City officials announced on their website that any outstanding delinquencies must be paid with cash, certified check, or money order to avoid being a part of the sale.
Gasoline prices continue to slowly come down in Cape May County. The latest gas price survey by AAA Mid Atlantic shows that the average price for a gallon of gas in our area is $2.52 per gallon, down a penny from the week before. We are still four cents below the state average.
Several communities held their holiday parades over the weekend. North Wildwood Police participated in the Greater Wildwood Jaycees Christmas Parade Saturday evening; parades were also held in Middle Township and Ocean City. An inmate at the South Woods State Prison in Cumberland County is accused of killing his cellmate. Authorities say Anthony Cole is accused of killing Keyon Wade at the lockup last week. Cole is from South Plainfield and charged with first degree homicide.
The annual Knights of Columbus Italian American Festival in North Wildwood may be a thing of the past. The Cape May County Herald reports that the city received a letter from the organization saying that due to a lack of volunteers to staff the event, it will no longer be hosted.
If you are driving in Cape May Court House this morning, be aware that the Middle Township Christmas Parade will be held. Township officials say a portion of Route 9 from Mechanic Street to Shellbay Avenue will be closed starting at 5:45pm, and will remain closed until about 7pm.
One of the longest serving mayors in our area has passed away at the age of 64. Longtime Buena Vista Township Mayor Chuck Chiarello passed away Thursday night after a series of health issues. Chiarello was a democrat; the Township will select a new mayor in January.
Lower Township’s Christmas parade will be held next Saturday. Lower Township Police announced that the Rotary’s annual parade will be held along Bayshore Road starting at 6pm next Saturday, at the Breakwater Plaza. The parade is expected to be over by 9:00pm.
