60 year old John Carroll of Belmar was struck and killed by a passing car as he stood on the shoulder of the Garden State Parkway in Holmdel. New Jersey State Police say the accident occurred Friday night near milepost 115.9. The driver of the other vehicle was not injured in the accident.
Former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Paul Porreca has died at the age of 85. The Millville resident passed away last month and his passing was announced this week. Porreca served two terms on the Millville City Commission and previously ran for Congress, and for a seat in the New Jersey State Senate.
Cape May County announced that free Narcan kits will be made available at select pharmacies through the County for three days next week. New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy signed a new environmental justice bill in to law Friday. The bill will help protect vulnerable New Jersey communities from further threats of pollution. The bill requires the state to look at how much additional pollution would come to vulnerable communities if new factories or plants are developed.
New Jersey has reported five additional deaths from coronavirus. That elevates the state’s death toll during the pandemic to 14,270. The rate of transmission went up slightly from 24 hours ago.
