2,443 people have died from coronavirus in the State of New Jersey. New figures were released in advance of Governor Phil Murphy’s daily press briefing. The total number of people in the Garden State who have come down with Covid-19 now totals 64,584. Cape May County’s count is now up to 164 cases.
The Wildwood boardwalk near the Convention Center was shredded from high winds Wednesday morning. The Wildwood Boardwalk social media page shows the damage with multiple boards sticking up at nearly 90 degree angles. Egg Harbor Township Police say the canopy over the gasoline pumps at a Sunoco gas station came tumbling down Monday morning due to strong gusty winds. No injuries have been reported at the station, located on the Black Horse Pike near Aldi Supermarket.
Seven people have died from coronavirus at the Victoria Manor Nursing Home in Lower Township. NJ.com reports that the nursing home now accounts for two thirds of the deaths from the virus in our county. The nursing home is owned by Genesis HealthCare.
About ten percent of Cape May County had no power as of early Monday afternoon. Atlantic City Electric’s power outage map showed major outages in the Wildwoods, Ocean City, and the Cape May/Lower Township area. Strong winds brought down trees and another round of severe weather comes later.
Lower Township Police are warning the community about trees and utility poles that have fallen during Monday morning’s strong winds. There are numerous power outages reported throughout the County, including in Lower Township. Police are asking people to stay off the roadways.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy is expected to update the Covid-19 situation in the Garden State later today. Murphy is expected to speak at 3:00pm and provide updated numbers for the state. He may also address the situation involving public schools at some point this week too.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Cape May County for Monday, until 6:00pm. Conditions will be favorable for a tornado to develop; a warning means a threat is imminent. Strong gusty winds are expected in our area until sunset.
