A Cumberland County festival that experienced a tragedy last year will not be held in 2020. Organizers of the Deerfield Harvest Festival say the event is being scrubbed this year. You may remember a little girl was killed at the festival last year on an amusement ride.
Wildwood Crest will hear some ideas about the future of its fishing pier this week. The Borough Commission meets Wednesday morning and will hear from the newly formed Crest Fishing Pier committee, and professional consultants. The presentation will take place at Borough Hall Wednesday at 9:30am.
Millville Police say someone left a pit bull dog to die in a crate in a wooded area. The Daily Journal reports the dog was a pit bull mix, under one year old, and was found deceased last Wednesday. Police say the dog was in poor condition when it was found.
No injuries were reported from a house fire in North Wildwood over the weekend. Fire crews responded to a blaze that was contained to one room at a property in the 300 block of 16th Avenue. The fire was contained to the second floor. No word yet on how it started.
Wildwood Catholic basketball star Gabby Turco hit the 1000 point career milestone Saturday as the Lady Crusaders defeated Atlantic City, 51-46. Turco finished the night with 19 points and a dozen rebounds. In boys’ action, Seton Hall Prep got an easy win over Wildwood Catholic, 64-44 at the Battle by the Bay in Atlantic City.
Middle Township Police say someone spray painted a racial slur on a utility pole in a desolate area of Middle Township. Police say the graffiti was found on Friday, and reported by a resident. Police are seeking the public’s help with identifying the individual responsible for the crime.
Lower Township Police have alerted the community to a 91 year old individual who has been reported missing. Police say Ioannis Gioulis is a white male who stands 5’7″ tall and weighs 161 pounds. The Cape May City Council meets Tuesday and will consider ordinances that would establish standards for both electric vehicle charging stations, and roof mounted solar energy systems. Council is expected to continue the long discussion of a bond ordinance for a public safety building. Council will meet Tuesday at 4:00pm.
The North Wildwood City Council meets Tuesday afternoon and is expected to make various appointments to Council committees for 2020. Council is also expected to consider a resolution for the introduction of the boardwalk special improvement district budget, and authorize a bid for renovations to the 4th Avenue Public Safety Building.
