Gasoline prices took a spike in Cape May County over the past week. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that gas prices have gone up by seven cents a gallon in just one week to an average of $2.52 locally. We are now six cents above the national average, and four cents above the state average.
Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian will present his city’s budget and State of the City address this Thursday. Gillian announced that an updated five year plan for capital improvements will be part of the budget message. The Ocean City budget will be adopted in about two months.
A controlled burn will be held Sunday at the Estell Manor Park, just off Route 50. The State Forest Fire Service holds the burns in order to remove underbrush that can cause a much bigger fire. The fire on Sunday will occur between 10am and 6pm.
New Jersey State Police rescued two distressed kayakers in the Barnegat Bay last Wednesday. Police say they received a report of two kayakers about a mile off the coast of Barnegat municipal docks. The troopers pulled the victims to safety and provided dry clothing to prevent hypothermia.

A Bridgeton woman has copped a plea deal in connection with the death of a pedestrian. 25 year old Karen Garcia was in court last week and she will be sentenced on a lesser charge. Garcia struck and killed 68 year old Nykola Kudla last August.
Atlantic City Police arrested ten individuals Saturday on charges that they were conducting prostitution. Most of the suspects were from the city, while one came from Millville, and another from Ventnor. All suspects were released on a summons.
New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy says he has a tumor on his kidney that is likely cancerous. Murphy announced the illness on social media over the weekend and he will undergo surgery on his left kidney. Murphy is expected to run for re-election next year, and deliver a budget address this week.
