Wildwood Police conducted a motor vehicle stop early Sunday morning and arrested two local men after 200 bags of heroin were found in their vehicle. Police announced charges were filed against 30 year old Daniel Thomas of Rio Grande, and 40 year old David Fessler of Cape May.
The New Jersey National Guard has arrived in Washington, DC in advance of Wednesday’s inauguration of President-elect Joe Biden. New Jersey added 3,511 new coronavirus cases on Monday. State officials say there are also 23 new deaths to report. The state is closing in on 600,000 positive cases of Covid-19 during the pandemic.
The Ocean View Volunteer Fire Company responded to a vehicle that was fully engulfed in flames Saturday afternoon. The fire department responded to a report of a vehicle on fire southbound at Exit 17 of the Parkway. The vehicle was off on the shoulder of the road; there were no injuries.
Cape May County reports 45 new cases of coronavirus on Monday. County officials report 569 active residential cases of the virus. The only community with zero active community cases is West Wildwood.
Wildwood Crest Police have announced the passing of former chief Alfred Corchiani. Corchiani passed away last Wednesday. He was promoted to become the department’s ninth Chief of Police in December, 1994. New Jersey reported 4,686 new cases of coronavirus o n Sunday. There are 26 new confirmed deaths. New Jersey has surpassed over 18,300 confirmed deaths during the pandemic.
Swearings in ceremonies will be held at Wednesday’s Council meeting in Lower Township for two new police sergeants. William Barcas and Anthony Greto will take their oaths of office. Council will also take action on an ordinance that will help facilitate additional volunteers for the Township fire companies.
Wildwood Crest employees donated a check worth $2,147 to the local “Love of Linda” organization. The employees held a “Pink Out” fundraiser that raised money for the group that assists families who are dealing with the effects of cancer. The effort was spearheaded by Nick Holland, and resulted in a popular t-shirt drive.
A 93 year old woman from Middle Township is the latest fatality locally from coronavirus. The County announced 64 new positive cases of the virus on Saturday. Over 5,200 people have contracted the virus locally. Middle Township continues to lead with 144 active cases.
