Cape May County intends to close the Ingram’s Thorofare Bridge on Avalon Boulevard for three consecutive overnights, starting Monday night. A major rehabilitation of the bridge is ongoing all winter, and some concrete will be poured. Starting Monday night, the bridge will be closed from 7:00pm-5:00am for three consecutive nights.
South Jersey fared very well in regards to power outages caused by the nor’easter. There were very few outages in our part of the state, and zero widespread outages in Cape May County. As of Thursday at 9:45am, only 530 customers were without power in Atlantic City Electric’s service area.
It’s been a busy 24 hours for the New Jersey State Police. Due to a snowstorm that dumped plenty of snow in the northern half of the State, police have responded to over 200 motor vehicle accidents. More than a foot of snow fell in New Jersey’s northern most counties.
Avalon’s Borough Council met Wednesday evening and approved a new municipal ordinance that regulates the implementation of the expansion of various wireless facilities. Mayor Marty Pagliughi says the process was comprehensive, and requires various carriers to integrate into, and not dominate, communities in the Borough when they choose to implement 5G and other wireless technologies.
The Townsend’s Inlet Bridge that connects Avalon to Sea Isle City was closed Thursday morning. At 9:30am, Avalon Police announced they closed the access road to the bridge due to excessive wave action in the Inlet in advance of this morning’s high tide. Cape May County has reported 55 new coronavirus cases on Wednesday. The latest figures have 53 new cases in the community and two additional long term care cases, both in Woodbine. Both Lower Township and Middle Township continue to have over 100 active cases apiece.
The bridge toll on the Delaware Memorial Bridge for frequent travelers only is going up as of January 1st. The Delaware River and Bay Authority announced Wednesday that the toll for motorists in the frequent traveler program will increase by 50 cents. All other toll rates remain unchanged. New Jersey will be under a State of Emergency at 2:00pm Wednesday. Governor Phil Murphy announced on social media the new declaration as about half of the state is expected to receive significant snow. Murphy says all of New Jersey is under some sort of weather warning. State offices are closing at 1:00pm.
New Jersey reported 91 new deaths from coronavirus on Wednesday. The state also announced that there are 5,803 new cases of the virus. New Jersey continues to average about 5,000 new cases of the virus every day.
