Atlantic City Police reported the shooting of a 28 year old man in the city early Thursday morning, before sunup. It happened on Martin Luther King Boulevard, and the victim suffered non-life threatening injuries. The suspect remains at large.
A new playground is now open at Mitnick Park in Lower Township. Township officials were on hand this week for the opening of the new playground which was immediately tested by first graders in Mrs. Ackroyd’s class at the elementary school. The new playground offers ADA handicapped accessibility.
New Jersey records another day with fewer than 1,000 new cases of coronavirus. State officials report 820 new cases of the virus on Thursday, with 26 deaths. This comes the same day as the Centers for Disease Control have announced that indoor mask-wearing is optional for individuals who are fully vaccinated, in uncrowded circumstances.

A diesel fuel spill has fouled a portion of the Maurice River near Leesburg. The United States Coast Guard reports that the maximum potential release is 778 gallons. The spill came from a motor vessel running in the river on Wednesday. Boom containment is underway.

New Jersey reported 925 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday, along with 33 new deaths. More than 3.5 million New Jersey adults are completely vaccinated. Governor Murphy continues to encourage all residents to get vaccinated as soon as possible.
Wildwood Crest now has a smoke-free beach. Borough officials announced that smoking has been prohibited from the beaches as the town attempts to prohibit smoking cannabis on public property. Previous designated areas for smoking have been eliminated.

Avalon voters elected three individuals to Borough Council Tuesday night. Incumbent John McCorristin was returned to Council, along with two newcomers, Mari Coskey and Jamie McDermott.
