New Jersey state court houses are finally opening to the public starting Monday. They have been shut down and going virtual through the pandemic for a year and a half. The state judiciary will continue to monitor guidelines provided by the CDC.
Police in Wildwood Crest arrested the same 32 year old Pennsylvania man twice in three days. Christopher Stonelake was highly intoxicated and confrontational when he was initially arrested in a parking lot at Atlantic Avenue and Cardinal Road on July 22nd. New Jersey again topped 1,000 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday. State health officials say nine new deaths were reported. The rate of transmission went down a little bit. Monmouth County continues to have the highest rates of the virus.
There will be a major beach patrol competition in Wildwood Friday evening. The annual Dutch Hoffman Memorial Lifeguard Championships will be held with participation from 15 beach patrols in our area. It’s one of the major events of the summer season. Earlier this week, Avalon captured the Kerr Memorials on its home sand.
Today will be a day of tornado assessment in New Jersey. The National Weather Service will investigate suspected tornadoes that touched down near Trenton, and another one in Lakehurst. There could have also been activity in the Willingboro area in South Jersey. Locally, not even a thunderstorm for us.
In order for employees at Stockton University to work, they must be vaccinated against coronavirus. The University announced the new requirement on Thursday. Managers and temporary employees are among those who must be vaccinated.
The first gubernatorial debate of the year is all set. Democrat Phil Murphy and Republican Jack Ciattarelli will square off on September 28th and will be aired on television stations in the Philadelphia and New York City markets. Both men are their parties’ candidates for the November gubernatorial election.
The National Weather Service has issued a Tornado Watch for Cape May County. The Watch is in effect Thursday until 9pm. Some scattered thunderstorms are possible this afternoon, with heavier weather possible in our area during the early evening hours.
North Wildwood officials announced the cancellation of a concert Thursday night due to the poor weather forecast. The “Jimmy and the Parrots” concert at the Lou Booth Amphitheater has been cancelled due to storms that are in the forecast.
A portion of Railroad Avenue in Middle Township will be closed for five hours on Friday. Township officials announced on their website that the road will be closed between the hours of 7am and Noon on Friday, from Teal Road to the intersection of Route 47. Construction will be underway during this time.
