Cape May County is part of a presidential disaster declaration for a winter storm in early February that produced strong winds, tidal flooding, and eroded beaches. President Biden announced the declaration via a press release today, announced by Governor Murphy on social media. There will be funds available as part of this declaration.

County Commission Director Gerald Thornton has issued a statement personally opposing the wind farm project off the coast of southern New Jersey. Sea Isle City has unveiled its official presentation for a new community center. Mayor Len Desiderio says the center will be located at the site of the former school on Park Road. There is a 22-minute video on the city’s website that includes details about the proposed center.
The Wildwood Crest Borough Commission may entertain discussion of eliminating designated smoking areas on the beaches. Crest officials meet Wednesday afternoon and could consider this measure. The Commission is also expected to vote on new regulations that would prohibit the smoking and consumption of cannabis products in public places.
Gasoline prices that had begun to fall are now again on their way up. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that the average price for a gallon of gasoline in Cape May County is now $2.94, which is seven cents higher than one week ago. We are three cents per gallon above the state average.

West Cape May’s Borough Commission meets Wednesday and will formally accept the resignation of Clerk Suzanne Schumann. Schumann is moving to another position in Middle Township. During Wednesday’s meeting the Commission will formally introduce the new 2021 budget. West Cape May’s meeting starts at 7:00pm.
