It looks like Middle Township will be the latest community to prohibit recreational cannabis businesses in its community. The Township Committee has a second reading of an ordinance on Monday’s agenda that would prevent recreational pot stores from opening up. The meeting begins at 6pm.
North Wildwood Mayor Patrick Rosenello is the latest local mayor to criticize the state over new laws pertaining to minors. Cape May County is getting $3.3 million in transportation funding to help rebuild infrastructure. State officials announced that $161 million was being doled out throughout New Jersey. County aid funds are based on population and road mileage, and can be used for roads and bridges.
Cape May County’s coronavirus cases are on the sharp incline. There are now 161 resident cases in the County, with every community having at least one case. There were 28 cases in Middle Township, the highest in the County. There are only six non resident active cases.
New Jersey state court houses are finally opening to the public starting Monday. They have been shut down and going virtual through the pandemic for a year and a half. The state judiciary will continue to monitor guidelines provided by the CDC.
Police in Wildwood Crest arrested the same 32 year old Pennsylvania man twice in three days. New Jersey again topped 1,000 new cases of coronavirus on Saturday. State health officials say nine new deaths were reported. The rate of transmission went down a little bit. Monmouth County continues to have the highest rates of the virus.
There will be a major beach patrol competition in Wildwood Friday evening. The annual Dutch Hoffman Memorial Lifeguard Championships will be held with participation from 15 beach patrols in our area. It’s one of the major events of the summer season. Earlier this week, Avalon captured the Kerr Memorials on its home sand.
Today will be a day of tornado assessment in New Jersey. The National Weather Service will investigate suspected tornadoes that touched down near Trenton, and another one in Lakehurst. There could have also been activity in the Willingboro area in South Jersey. Locally, not even a thunderstorm for us.
In order for employees at Stockton University to work, they must be vaccinated against coronavirus. The University announced the new requirement on Thursday. Managers and temporary employees are among those who must be vaccinated.
