It was a huge night for republicans in our first legislative district. Senator Mike Testa, and his two running mates, Assemblymen Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan were all re-elected last night. Democrats ran unknown candidates in the election. Testa earned well over 60 percent of the popular vote.

Democrat Phil Murphy’s lead is shrinking. Votes are being tallied, and with about 23 percent of the popular vote in, Murphy’s lead over republican Jack Ciattarelli has been cut to less than four percentage points. There have been over 600,000 votes counted so far.

Early balloting in New Jersey’s gubernatorial race is giving democrat Phil Murphy a sizable lead over republican Jack Ciattarelli. Murphy holds a 15 point lead over his opponent with over 200,000 votes counted.
The American Civil Liberties Union tried to keep the polls open longer in New Jersey with a lawsuit Tuesday. It didn’t work. The ACLU contended that there were technical issues and delays at some polling sites. The court didn’t buy it, and the polls closed at 8pm Tuesday.
A pedestrian was killed during a motor vehicle accident on Route 9 in Northfield Monday evening. 6abc.com reports that the accident occurred around 9pm near Banning Avenue. The pedestrian was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the SUV that struck the pedestrian stayed at the scene of the accident.
Election Day means most services and businesses are open for the day. The Motor Vehicle Commission closed today, but there will be mail delivery and most major banks are open. State offices and courts are also closed.
The Saint Mary by the Sea retreat house in Cape May Point will be come a nature center. Owners say the Cape May Point Science Center, Inc. will purchase the site and keep it as a study house for the nature and environment.
Election day has arrived in the Garden State. The polls opened at 6am today as voters cast ballots for governor, and for all seats in the New Jersey Legislature. There are some hotly contested local races as well, including in Middle and Upper townships. Polls remain open until 8pm.
