The Avalon Free Public Library is getting a new director next month. Erin Brown is leaving the Atlantic City library system to replace Norman Gluckman in Avalon, who is retiring after a ten year career. The Avalon Free Public Library has attained five-star status over the past eight consecutive years.
Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced that federal funding has been secured for two local airports. LoBiondo secured two grants totaling $2.3 million for the Millville Municipal Airport for runway rehabilitation projects, and $57,000 for the Woodbine Port Authority to develop a design for a runway.
Longport was the big winner of the South Jersey Lifeguard Championships in Avalon on Friday evening. Longport was guaranteed the victory with a win by Mike McGrath in the singles row. Defending champion Avalon finished third in the competition.

Three locals have been slapped with major drug charges following a raid Friday in the 100 block of Oregon Avenue in the Villas. Authorities have charged 24 year old James Matthews, 47 year old Tamara Matthews, and 26 year old Raymond Middleton after they found two pounds of pot, cash, and firearms at the home.…
Ocean City will spend just over $2 million to rebuild the 29th Street firehouse. City Council met late last week and approved a new firehouse to replace an old building that was damaged by flooding. Bids for the project came in higher than expected.
Six vehicles were damaged during a fire at a Vineland car dealership early Friday morning. Fire officials say the blaze broke out at the Auto Tec Auto Sales lot on North Delsea Drive during the overnight hours. The fire apparently started in one of the vehicles and spread to six others. There were no injuries.
