18 adults from Cape May County were rounded up over the past few days for owing back child support. Cape May County Sheriff Gary Schaffer says over $7,300 was collected in non support payments. The suspects range in age from 22 to 52 years old. ##
Vineland Police have arrested a 30 year city man and charged him the weekend shooting death of 26 year old Christian Rogers of Millville. Police announced the arrest of Jules Black after spotting Black on a surveillance video. Black was charged with murder and other offenses, no motive has been disclosed. ##
Cape May County and ten other counties are at an enhanced risk for wildfires on Monday. Dry, breezy conditions have caused the alert being issued in this county. Humidity values will be below 30 percent this afternoon. ##
Former Penn State quarterback Matt McGloin is a member of the Philadelphia Eagles. The Eagles signed McGloin to a one year contract on Monday. He has played sparingly as a starter and backup in Oakland. Last year the Eagles kept only two quarterbacks on their active roster.
It’s a double header of gubernatorial debates planned for Stockton University come May 9th. The university announced today it will hold back to back republican and gubernatorial debates for governor on that date. The debates will be held at 6:30pm, and 8:00pm; no word yet on which party goes first. ##
Stockton University will host a discussion tonight on the opioid epidemic in South Jersey. Various advocates will discuss the problem with illegal drug use in Atlantic County and elsewhere. The Press of Atlantic City reports that Atlantic County experienced 85 drug related deaths in 2015. ##
A beach fill project is winding up in Cape May. The dredge “Texas” went to Cape May for repairs last week and stayed in the city to complete a beach project. When that wraps up on April 22nd, the “Texas” then heads to Avalon to finish a massive beach fill project in that community. ##
Avalon held a meeting to discuss various projects during Saturday’s Avalon Home and Land Owners Association meeting. The crowd heard discussions regarding two applications to be considered by the Cape May County Open Space Program; the extension of a bicycle path, and a new community park near Community Hall. ##
The New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletic Association is developing a policy that will crack down on the practice of schools recruiting foreign students for competitive purposes. NJ Advance Media reports that a legislative remedy to the issue will be developed by the fall. ##
A major donation was made by the Burke Motor Group to the Atlantic Cape Community College Foundation. The automotive dealership donated $2,000 through its hometown charity for sales of Subaru vehicles. ##
