The exact reasons are unclear, but the County of Cape May has closed the Townsend’s Inlet Bridge that links Avalon to Sea Isle City. The County announced the closure due to a recent underwater inspection. There’s no word as to what’s causing the closure, or when it can be expected to be repaired. ##
Students who attend Avalon Elementary School took a field trip to the beach Monday. They put 2,000 dune grass plants on the beaches in Avalon as part of an ecological project sponsored by the Avalon Environmental Commission. Council Vice President John McCorristin assisted the students with the effort. ##
A 21 year old college student from New Jersey has died after she participated in a pancake eating contest. Caitlin Nelson of Clark, New Jersey, died after her airway became blocked during a competition held at Sacred Heart University. Nelson succumbed three days after the contest.
A star athlete at Ocean City High School will continue his football career at The College of New Jersey. Gazette Leader Sports Editor Brian Cunniff reports that Andrew Donoghue will play for the Division III school in the fall. Last year, TCNJ posted a 2-8 record. ##
A 22 year old woman was seriously injured in a two vehicle traffic accident in Vineland Sunday night. The Daily Journal reports that Melissa M. Adams of Vineland was injured while she attempted to pass another vehicle that was making a left hand turn off Brewster Road. The second driver had minor injuries. ##
New Jersey Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced that he and Congressman Rick Nolan have re-established a Lung Cancer Caucus in Washington. LoBiondo says the effort has bipartisan support; he lost both of his parents to the disease. ##

Cape May’s city council meets Tuesday evening and will hear a presentation regarding the assessment of facility needs associated with the Cape May City Fire Department. Council will also vote on resolutions dealing with protected bathing beaches adding a member to the Beach Safety Advisory Committee. ##
A 24 year old Wildwood man was arrested last week in Vineland for a series of burglaries on East Wheat Road. Vineland Police say Justin R. Lahn was discovered by a K-9 dog while hiding inside a pickup truck. Lahn has been incarcerated at the Cumberland County Jail. ##
Gubernatorial candidate Phil Murphy has picked up support from the Cape May County Democratic Party. Murphy has now earned the endorsement from democrats in all 21 counties of the Garden State. Republican support is split between Kim Guadagno and Jack Ciattarelli. ##
