Atlantic County physician James Kauffman has been formally indicted on weapons and obstruction charges. The Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office announced that Kauffman faces those charges stemming from an incident in June where authorities approached him, and Kauffman pointed a gun at his own chest.
The 253rd Transportation Company of the National Guard is headed to Florida to help with evacuations in advance of Hurricane Irma. The company has been deployed in two different stages and will arrive at Camp Blanding in Florida as early as Friday. The Company is based in Cape May County.
New Jersey Congressman Frank LoBiondo has announced a $158,000 grant for the Green Creek Volunteer Fire Company. LoBiondo says this is the fourth grant the fire company has been able to obtain; another $162,000 grant has been obtained by the Goshen Fire Company as well.
Opening arguments have been delivered in connection with the federal corruption trial involving United States Senator Robert Menendez. His attorney argued in court that Menendez did take trips with a Florida doctor, but did not do so in order to exchange political influence.
Authorities have identified the 35 year old Pennsylvania man who drowned while trying to save the lives of two children in the surf near Wildwood Sunday. Hany Mohamed disappeared in the ocean while trying to save the lives of his two children; the children were rescued by lifeguards.

A man was killed, and another man was seriously injured during a traffic accident Monday night in Vineland. City police say 23 year old Rishi Singh was killed when his pickup truck ran off the road and struck several trees. A passenger in Singh’s vehicle was airlifted to a local hospital.
South Jersey Gas plans some major natural gas upgrades in Middle Township starting in about two weeks. Both two and eight inch gas pipe will be placed along some key roads in the Township, including on Burleigh Road from Route 9 to Route 47, and many side streets. The work is expected to be wrapped…
A central New Jersey beach town has now prohibited so-called “beach spreading”. The Belmar council voted three to two Tuesday night to prohibit large, elaborate tents being set up on the beaches. A few Cape May County communities dealt with beach spreading this past summer season.
Cape May County will hold a Patriot’s Day ceremony on Monday, September 11th. County officials announced that the ceremony will be held in front of the County’s administration building next Monday at 5pm.
