Middle Township officials cut the ribbon on the new Ockie Wisting Recreation Complex Tuesday afternoon. The complex is a joint effort between the Township, the County of Cape May, the State of New Jersey and other organizations. It will provide many recreational opportunities for the public, and be open from dawn to dusk.
The second and last gubernatorial debate will be held this evening featuring democrat Phil Murphy and republican Kim Guadagno. All pre-election polls show Guadagno trailing Murphy by double digits, and both candidates struggling with name recognition. The election will be held November 7th.
Yurt rentals are ending at the Belleplain State Forest and at four other state parks. Philly.com reports that the rentals will disappear and be replaced by small cabins. The yurts are difficult to maintain, and can attract mold.
A resignation at the top of the ranks of the New Jersey State Police. Governor Christie announced today that Colonel Rick Fuentes has retired as the long time superintendent of the New Jersey State Police. Fuentes will likely head up the federal Drug Enforcement Administration.
South Jersey Gas has purchased two other natural gas companies. The utility announced that it has purchased Elizabethtown Gas and Elkton Gas in Maryland from another energy company. South Jersey Gas will become the second largest natural gas supplier in the Garden State.
A Vineland man was sentenced to ten years in prison in connection with an accident that killed a teenager in Hamilton Township three years ago. Nicholas Garreffi was handed the long sentence in connection with the death of Aisling Cooke. Authorities say Garreffi had narcotics in his system at the time of the accident.
Millville Police say a 21 year old man from Bridgeton was shot in the groin Monday night along East Broad Street. Police say the shooter ran away from the scene; the victim could not provide a description. Police have no suspects in custody.

Ocean City High School football quarterback Harry Pfeifle has been named the CoastSportsToday.com Athlete of the Week. Pfeifle scored three touchdowns as the Red Raiders knocked off rival Middle Township, 47-8 last Friday night. Pfeifle has rushed for ten touchdowns this season.
Wildwood Police have received a $500 donation from American Legion Post 184. The Post made the donation to the city’s police department after it sold t-shirts to support the city’s K9 police program. K9 officer Vera was in attendance for the check presentation last Friday night.
