A two-vehicle accident on Route 9 in Upper Township Thursday afternoon resulted in one serious injury. State Police say 79 year old Dorothea Whildin was airlifted away from the accident scene with serious injuries. The accident closed down a section of the highway for a few hours.
Ocean City officials unveiled a new five-year capital plan on Thursday that would commit about $100 million towards necessary improvement projects. A Hammonton man has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with an accident in Gloucester County last year. Authorities announced that 27 year old Elliott Festa Jr. was driving at a speed in excess of 100 mph when his vehicle collided with another, resulting in two deaths.
Police in Hamilton Township say a 58 year old man was injured when his car struck a utility pole and a mailbox during a single vehicle accident on Route 40. Police say Lawrence Potts of Franklinville drove into the pole shortly after 4pm on Thursday. The road was closed for several hours following the accident.
Jeffrey Christopher is the new Chief of Police in Avalon. Christopher was sworn in by Mayor Marty Pagliughi during a ceremony before Avalon Borough Council Wednesday afternoon. Pleasantville Police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are both investigating a fatal shooting in the city early Thursday. Authorities say one man was killed during the shooting around 2:00am Thursday on Lafayette Avenue. No suspects are in custody.
