A Hammonton man has been charged with two counts of vehicular homicide in connection with an accident in Gloucester County last year. Authorities announced that 27 year old Elliott Festa Jr. was driving at a speed in excess of 100 mph when his vehicle collided with another, resulting in two deaths.
Police in Hamilton Township say a 58 year old man was injured when his car struck a utility pole and a mailbox during a single vehicle accident on Route 40. Police say Lawrence Potts of Franklinville drove into the pole shortly after 4pm on Thursday. The road was closed for several hours following the accident.
Jeffrey Christopher is the new Chief of Police in Avalon. Christopher was sworn in by Mayor Marty Pagliughi during a ceremony before Avalon Borough Council Wednesday afternoon. Christopher replaces William McCormick who enjoyed a 31-year career with the Borough. John Roscoe was named the department’s new Captain.
Pleasantville Police and the Atlantic County Prosecutor’s Office are both investigating a fatal shooting in the city early Thursday. Authorities say one man was killed during the shooting around 2:00am Thursday on Lafayette Avenue. No suspects are in custody.
An alleged associated of James Kauffman has been released pending his trial date. A judge on Thursday released 51 year old Paul Pagano of Egg Harbor Township who is charged with racketeering. Pagano has been released, with conditions.
The Wildwood Catholic boys basketball team remains undefeated following a 66-58 win over St. Joseph’s Wednesday night. Caleb Fields scored 33 points in the game. The Crusaders have improved to 12-0 on the season.
There’s a bill being considered in Trenton that would bail out the State’s nuclear power industry. The new bill would raise typical energy bills by over $40 per year. It will be considered by a key Senate committee in Trenton today.
Another win over a local opponent for the Cape May Tech boys basketball team. The Hawks knocked off Wildwood, 62-58 Wednesday evening. Josh Wright scored a game high 20 points for Tech. Vineland Police broke ground Wednesday on a brand new public safety building. The new police station will cost $20 million and should be completed by the end of the year. The Cumberland County Improvement Authority is funding both the acquisition of land and the construction for the building.
A 49 year old Egg Harbor Township man has been arrested by Hamilton Township Police for performing a lewd act in front of two children, ages one and five months.
