Ocean City will put a major project out to bid this summer to help alleviate flooding at Third Street and Bay Avenue. Mayor Jay Gillian reports that the project will cost millions of dollars, and work on the new pump station should begin in late fall. ##
Cape May County Surrogate and former freeholder Susan Sheppard is becoming a Superior Court judge. Sheppard was nominated by Governor Christie to assume a judgeship locally. James B. Arsenault Jr. of Upper Township was also nominated to become a workman’s compensation judge. ##
A 23 year old Egg Harbor Township woman captured the Miss New Jersey Pageant Saturday night at the Ocean City Music Pier. Kaitlyn Schoeffel competed in the pageant for six years as Miss Eastern Shore, and will represent the Garden State in the Miss America Pageant in September. ##
It’s the Miss New Jersey Pageant week in Ocean City. Nearly 30 contestants have arrived in the resort for the annual pageant; the winner will compete for the Miss America title. ##
There was only one winner of Powerball’s enormous jackpot over the weekend, and that ticket was sold in California. Lottery officials announced today that one ticket worth $50,000 was sold at the Acme Supermarket in Ocean City; the winner has not yet come forward. ##
Chris Mesinger has resigned as the head coach of the Ocean City High School baseball team after a 32 year career. Mesinger’s teams won 360 games and two State Group III championships during Mesinger’s tenure, according to Brian Cunniff of the Gazette Leader. ##
Ocean City officials held a meeting Saturday to update residents on a back bay dredging project. Ocean City will allow residents to dredge their private slips next year, with slip owners paying for their own dredging work. The dredging project is expected to start after summer. ##
Ocean City will spend over $18 million for various capital improvement projects. City Council met this week and approved funding for a back bay dredging project, a fire truck, and other essentials. There was no public comment against the bond ordinance. ##
Ocean City has a new field hockey coach. The Gazette Leader’s Brian Cunniff reports that Kelsey Mitchell is taking over the successful Red Raider program that has produced ten state Group III championships. ##
The Ocean City Beach Patrol will have ten guarded beaches during the upcoming Memorial Day weekend. City officials announced that ten beaches will be manned with lifeguards and the public is advised to only swim in the presence of a lifeguard. Rowing clinics for rookie guards are forthcoming. ##
