Ocean City Mayor Jay Gillian is calling for the prohibition of online platforms to conduct short term rentals, and he’s asking individuals and realtors to follow suit. Gillian cites Governor Phil Murphy’s executive order 108 for eliminating short term rentals for now. Many communities have definitions of short term rentals in their code books.
The coronavirus case from Ocean City is a retired nurse identified as Cindy Washko-Margraf. Washko-Margrat told WPVI-TV that she believes she contracted the virus by attending the Big East basketball tournament in New York City. It started with a sore throat, then moved in to fever and chills.
Ocean City has closed its beaches. Mayor Jay Gillian issued a statement Wednesday afternoon, saying the beaches and boardwalks in his community are closed due to the coronavirus threat. Ocean City is the only community in our area to close its beaches to the public.

Ocean City will not be hosting the U.S. Air Force Heritage of America Band concert this Saturday at the Music Pier. The current tour of the band has been suspended over fears of coronavirus. The city hopes to schedule the performance at a later date.
Car dealer Gabe Staino has dropped out of the race for a vacant seat on the Ocean City council. Staino learned he would not meet the residency requirements and pulled out of the race on Tuesday. Staino moved to Ocean City last June, leaving him one month short of the residency required.
It looks like there will be a contested race for a vacant Council seat in Ocean City. Tom Rotondi turns in his nominating petition this week for the seat vacated by Assemblyman Antwan McClellan. Rotondi is expected to square off against Gabe Staino for the seat.
