Lightning struck the Governor’s mansion in Drumthwacket on Tuesday. There were no injuries resulting from the lightning strike which knocked out some equipment. Governor Christie was not at the mansion when the strike occurred.
President Trump and Governor Christie are meeting in Washington today to discuss the opioid epidemic in the United States. They will both participate in a roundtable discussion scheduled to begin at 11am inside the White House. ##

New Jersey’s credit rating has dropped for an 11th time during the Christie administration. Moody’s Investors Service downgraded the State to an A3 rating due to mounting pension debt. Next year’s budget includes a $2.5 billion pension payment, about half what is actually needed. ##
$400 million is headed to the Garden State to repair roads, bridges and transit systems thanks to a bill signed into law Monday by Governor Christie. President Trump has reportedly picked Governor Christie to head up a commission that will help combat opioid abuse in the United States. The Washington Post reports that Christie has been working with Trump’s son in law, Jared Kushner, on the issue. The appointment will be announced this week. ##
Governor Christie is calling for Cuba to hand over Joanne Chesimard, the woman accused of killing State Trooper Werner Foerster. This weekend marked the 40th anniversary of Chesimard’s conviction. He was killed during a traffic stop on the New Jersey Turnpike in 1973.
Two bodies were found in the water off Monmouth Beach on Friday. Police say the bodies of a male and a female were both found near a dock on the Shrewsbury River side of the community. Autopsies are being held over the weekend.
