Governor Phil Murphy says yes, he will accept the $175,000 salary to be governor of the Garden State. Murphy held a meeting Wednesday to discuss an increase in the minimum wage and confirmed he will accept the salary as the state’s political leader. Former governor Jon Corzine accepted only $1 per year as governor.
Gurbir Grewal is the first-ever Sikh to hold the position of Attorney General in the Garden State. Grewal took his oath of office on Tuesday, replacing Christopher Porrino. Grewal is 44 years old and was raised in Bergen and Hudson counties.

Outgoing New Jersey Governor Chris Christie signed a measure into law Monday that prohibits the sale or possession of so-called “bump stock” that is used for semiautomatic rifles. Bump stock was used during last year’s massacre in Las Vegas. The bill was sponsored by democrats in Trenton.
Two people are confirmed dead after their motor vehicle went into a lake in Burlington County. Authorities say the vehicle went off a jug handle following an accident, sending the car into the lake. Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased.

Governor Christie has joined the chorus of New Jersey lawmakers who want President Trump to reconsider his position on offshore drilling. Christie, along with New Jersey Senators Robert Menendez and Cory Booker, are all asking Trump not to permit offshore drilling for fuel as it risks both the environment, and tourism economy.
About 50,000 customers of two separate power companies in the State have been without power for hours on Friday due to various mechanical and technical issues that turned the lights out before sunup. Customers of PSE&G and JCP&L lost power in northern and central New Jersey; however, those outages did not extend to our region.
