The new federal tax reform bill cleared the United States Senate early Wednesday morning and promises economic growth..but also promises the elimination of a major deduction for New Jersey residents. New Jersey and other high tax states will no longer be allowed to take a majority of the federal deduction for state and local taxes.
A South Jersey elementary school teacher has been accused of sexually assaulting one of his students twice a week for the past three years. 53 year old Brian McSee of Port Republic has been charged; Tuckerton Police are asking anyone with additional information about the crimes to contact their department.
New Jersey State Police say two people were killed when a car crashed into a utility pole in Shamong Township. Police say the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed and was literally wrapped around the pole. The identities of the victims have not been released.
New Jersey Congressman Frank LoBiondo will cast a “no” vote on President Trump’s tax plan. LoBiondo announced Monday that a collective cap on property and state tax deductions was the deal breaker for him. President Trump believes he has enough votes to get the tax plan approved before Christmas.
Former New Jersey Governor Donald DiFrancesco says he will resign his position as the chairman of University of Hospital in Newark at the end of the month. DiFrancesco has come under fire for creating a low show job for an attorney friend at the hospital. Jill Cooperman was paid $94,000 a year for the position.
New Jersey Senator Cory Booker has received death threats, and U.S. Capitol Police are increasing security. The City of Newark released a statement saying that the city alerted law enforcement about the threat. Two police agencies are joining the feds with providing Booker more security.
Two men stole $1,400 worth of baby formula from a South Jersey Walmart, and State Police are looking for the public’s help with making the arrest. The theft occurred at the Walmart in Deerfield on Route 77 back on November 20th. The suspects filled a tote with the formula and left the store without paying…
New Jersey Governor-elect Phil Murphy is in Puerto Rico today to discuss hurricane relief efforts. Puerto Rico was battered by Hurricane Maria in September and recovery has been slow. More than 20 individuals are part of Murphy’s delegation, including his wife.
Rowan University’s sports complex is about to get a whole lot bigger. University officials will be leasing approximately 300 acres to developers who plan to build an arena and dozens of sports fields. The move was approved by the university’s Board of Trustees on Wednesday.
Governor-elect Phil Murphy has picked New Jersey Assemblywoman Elizabeth Muoio as the next State Treasurer. NJ Advance Media reports that Muoio will be introduced by Murphy today at a press conference at 12 Noon. She will need to get approval from the democrat-controlled New Jersey Senate.
