If your weekend travel takes you northbound on the Garden State Parkway to the split into local lanes, be prepared for delays. The New Jersey Turnpike Authority announced that the northbound local lanes will be closed this weekend north of milepost 100 for maintenance work. The Authority calls the potential delays quote “severe”.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has authorized the hiring of 40 new bus drivers to improve services on New Jersey Transit. Most of the bus operators will serve northeastern counties where congestion is the worst. They will now be driving busses that typically sit idle during the day.
Nearly 1,000 acres have burned in the Pine Barrens during a fire that started over the weekend. State forest officials say the fire is located in the Penn State Forest in Burlington County. As of last night, the fire was only ten percent contained.
Gasoline prices continue to creep up in the Garden State. Gas prices statewide were up six cents a gallon last week to a statewide average of $2.78 per gallon. That’s three cents higher than the national average, and about 30 cents higher than this time last year.
