$75 million in funding for various women’s health care programs have been restored by Governor Phil Murphy. Murphy signed new legislation into law that restores funding that was stripped away by the Chris Christie administration. Murphy signed another measure that provides for contraceptives to be made available to women on Medicaid.
Some school districts throughout the Garden State are preparing for student walkouts as students demand much tighter gun laws in this country. More than a dozen school districts report walkouts are planned, but so far none are in our region. Not all walkouts are approved by the school districts.
Authorities are investigating a murder-suicide that occurred inside a health care facility in Sewell. A 76 year old man shot his wife inside the facility and then turned the gun on himself; the couple is from Mullica Hill. The man’s wife was a patient at the facility.
Colonel Patrick Callahan is Governor Murphy’s choice to head up the New Jersey State Police. NJ.com reports that Murphy has decided to stick with former governor Chris Christie’s choice, and Callahan will be named the full time superintendent of the State Police. A devastating fire overnight destroyed an ambulance company in South Jersey. Flames broke out at the Woodstown American Legion Ambulance Association in Woodstown early this morning. The building has been destroyed and many ambulances went up in fire. No word yet on what caused the fire.

A 74 year old pastor from Medford has confessed to sexually assaulting four children over a 16 year period. Harry Thomas admitted in court Friday that the assaults continued until 2015, and he had an inappropriate action with a fifth child. Thomas now faces up to 20 years behind bars.
