New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy has authorized the hiring of 40 new bus drivers to improve services on New Jersey Transit. Most of the bus operators will serve northeastern counties where congestion is the worst. They will now be driving busses that typically sit idle during the day.
Nearly 1,000 acres have burned in the Pine Barrens during a fire that started over the weekend. State forest officials say the fire is located in the Penn State Forest in Burlington County. As of last night, the fire was only ten percent contained.
Gasoline prices continue to creep up in the Garden State. Gas prices statewide were up six cents a gallon last week to a statewide average of $2.78 per gallon. That’s three cents higher than the national average, and about 30 cents higher than this time last year.
Two people were killed early Saturday morning on Route 42 in South Jersey, near Route 55. New Jersey State Police say major delays were caused by the accident which occurred around 4am. The accident involved a dump truck and a car.
Governor Phil Murphy has signed a new bill into law that prevents the federal government from drilling for oil in state waterways. The bill earned bipartisan support in Trenton. Murphy says the new bill makes it very difficult for the feds from drilling in waters off the Garden State.
A New Jersey State Trooper has been indicted on charges that he would purposefully pull over female motorists in order to ask them out on dates. A six count indictment was handed up against 32 year old Eric Richardson of Camden. Richardson would deactivate the dashboard camera in his car during some of these traffic…
$85,000 of public money will be used to create a portrait of former governor Chris Christie. NJ.com reports that the portrait will will cost more than the portraits of the three governors who preceded him, combined.
New Jersey State Police are seeking the public’s help with catching the person who committed an armed robbery at a Heritage Dairy store in Upper Pittsgrove earlier this week. Police have released a photo of the suspect who is armed with a handgun. The suspect left with cash and cigarettes, and remains at large.
A new poll suggests that 60 percent of New Jerseyans believe that legalized marijuana will help improve the state’s economy. The new Monmouth University poll shows that 59 percent of state residents support legalized pot. Governor Murphy wants pot to be legal to some degree by the end this year.
Senator Robert Menendez says he will vote against the nomination of Mike Pompeo to be our next Secretary of State. Menendez delivered a speech on Wednesday and said “the American people deserve better”. Senator Cory Booker also will oppose Pompeo.
