New Jersey is sure to be the butt of some late night talk show jokes as our so-called rain tax has been signed into law. The law allows towns and counties in New Jersey to establish stormwater utilities that could tax property owners for impermeable surfaces…or the amount of rainwater that goes into collection systems.
12 South Jersey men have been charged by the State for operating a “ghost gun” network that resulted in untraceable assault weapons falling into the hands of drug dealers, and others. State authorities announced that the arrests were made last week and wrapped up a one year investigation.
A portion of Route 40 in Egg Harbor Township will be elevated by the state to avoid constant flooding. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the project will cost $27 million and take over three years to complete. The project will begin in 2022.
There were no winners in the Powerball jackpot Saturday night. That means the top prize for Wednesday night’s drawing will be $550 million, one of the largest jackpots in history. The winning numbers selected Saturday night were 30, 34, 39, 53, 67 and the Powerball, 11.
Another problem for the EZ Pass toll collection system involving New Jersey, and other states, on Thursday. Officials say the EZ Pass website went down for a second time on Thursday, making it impossible for drivers to dispute tickets or add more money on to their accounts. Various other EZ Pass services were down too.
A new recreational marijuana bill to be considered by lawmakers in Trenton this month would allow you to carry one ounce of pot. NJ Advance Media reports that people would only be allowed to smoke in private residences or in consumption lounges. A Cannabis Regulatory Commission would also be formed.
Again, no winners in Wednesday night’s Powerball lottery jackpot. That pushes the top prize for Saturday night’s drawing to a staggering $495 million. Last night’s jackpot was the 11th largest offered in Powerball history.
A deal has been reached to make pot legal in New Jersey. Governor Murphy and state lawmakers announced an agreement Tuesday morning that will allow for the legalization of marijuana at a March 25th voting session in Trenton. The deal includes what New Jersey really wants, money…a $42 tax will be placed on each ounce…
If you have Verizon and you sent a text that didn’t go through this morning, there’s a reason. Verizon admits to a text message outage Tuesday morning that affected many states, including New Jersey. Millions of customers are affected and Verizon is working to correct the problem.
3,200 pounds of cocaine have been seized at a Newark port, worth approximately $77 million. Authorities say this is the biggest drug bust at the port in nearly a quarter century. The seizure took place on February 28th.
