David Sommers of Levittown, PA was in court Monday and pleaded guilty to charges that he would drive to New Jersey to illegally harvest diamondback terrapin turtles, and their eggs. Sommers could now face up to five years in prison along with a quarter of a million dollars in fines, along with restitution.
Senator Robert Menendez has backed Cory Booker’s bid for the White House. Menendez says Booker has the ability to bring people together and work with republican colleagues. Menendez admits the Trump administration has worked to helped the wealthy and corporations, but has done little for the middle class.
Governor Phil Murphy is expected to sign legislation that will greatly expand the family leave laws in New Jersey. The new measure will increase the eligibility period for paid family leave from six to 12 weeks and raise the amount earned by the caregiver to 85 percent of his or her salary.

The minimum wage is going up this summer in New Jersey. The New Jersey Legislature approved a new bill that will increase the minimum wage to $15 an hour by 2024. This summer the wage will increase to $10 an hour, and go up by one dollar each year until it hits the $15 mark.
A girl scout troop leader from central New Jersey was removed from her troop after police determined that $1,000 in girl scout cookie sales was not actually stolen by someone else. A bill that would advance a $15 an hour minimum wage in New Jersey is expected to be advanced in Trenton today. The new wage would be phased in and strike the 15 dollar level by 2024. Many business groups oppose it, saying a minimum wage is not supposed to be a primary wage income.
It’s not going to be a pretty scene for travelers at Newark International Airport. Several cars caught fire early Thursday morning at Terminal “C” of the airport, and the vehicles were completely destroyed. The fire started in one of the vehicles on the roof of the parking deck.
