A three year old girl lost her life at the Sun Outdoors Campground in the Erma section of Lower Township over the weekend. The Lower Township Council will introduce a new ordinance that will prohibit individuals from smoking marijuana in public places throughout the Township. A public hearing on this new regulation is expected on May 3rd. Council will meet Monday at 7:00pm.
Lower Township Police reported Saturday morning that a portion of Fishing Creek Road between Breakwater Road and Charles Street remains closed from a motor vehicle accident on Friday. Crews are working to resolve the problem; there was a downed utility pole in the area. The closure is expected to last most of the day.

County officials announced Friday that emergency work on a portion of Bayshore Road where Middle and Lower townships meet will continue next week. Three foot cast iron culvert pipes need to be replaced in the area. The balance of the work, including the new roadway, is anticipated to be completed by April 7th.

There will be some additional overnight bridge closures on the Middle Thorofare Bridge in the coming weeks. County officials announced that the bridge will be closed overnight on March 23rd, March 26th, and again on April 6th. The bridge, which connects the southern Wildwoods to Lower Township, will open the next morning at 5:00am.
Lower Cape May Regional High School is the mock trial champions of New Jersey. Lower Cape May came out on top of a field that included participation from 196 schools statewide. Another case of an unexploded ordinance found in a yard..but this time, it was in Lower Township. Police there say a resident on Washington Boulevard in North Cape May found the ordinance in a yard Wednesday morning. A safety perimeter was established, and the ordinance was eventually disposed of properly.
