A Lower Township Police Officer has tested positive for coronavirus. Lower Township Police announced Friday morning that the officer is part of the patrol unit and has been recovering at home. The origin of how the officer contracted the virus is under investigation.
Lower Township has closed Township Hall to the public, and is closing the municipal court. Mayor Frank Sippel announced that all group activities and programs are also cancelled at the recreation and Millman centers until further notice.
The Lower Cape May Regional School District has announced breakfast and lunch distribution to students who receive a free or reduced meal. They can be picked up between the hours of 9am and Noon at six different locations; a bus will be provided in three locations to serve the Wildwood area.
The Cape May Lewes Ferry will continue operations, but walk on passengers will be disallowed. Those coming on the ferry inside a vehicle are urged to stay in their vehicles during the ferry crossing. These restrictions go in to effect on Wednesday.
Police departments in Middle and Lower townships are now offering phone reporting options for non emergency calls for service that do not require evidence to be collected or an on-scene investigation. Residents in both communities are encouraged to utilize this option if they have an incident meeting this criteria.
