A 21 year old Mays Landing man has been formally indicted on charges that he participated in a robbery and shooting in Vineland last September. Tahjir Rease and another man shot two people inside a Vineland home during an alleged drug transaction. Rease remains in the Atlantic County Jail.
Seven inmates at the Cumberland County Jail committed suicide over a three year period. NJ.com reports that the Department of Justice has ruled that the jail failed to take measures to prevent suicides of inmates. The report by the Department suggests that adequate mental health care was not provided.
A 35 year old man is in critical condition following a weekend shooting at a trailer park on Route 49 in Cumberland County. NJ.com reports that the shooting took place at the Tips Trailer Park in Fairfield Township. Police say the victim was outdoors when he was shot.
One person is dead as a result of a motor vehicle accident this morning on Route 47 in Cumberland County. NJ.com reports that the three vehicle pileup took place in Maurice River Township near milepost 33.4. The identity of the victim has not been reported.
GNC is closing 40 stores around the Garden State, including two in our region. NJ Advance Media reports that GNC is closing stores at the Hamilton Mall in Atlantic City, and another location in Vineland. GNC filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection in June.
50 year old former pharmacist Alton Chatmon of Cumberland County could face decades in prison after he admitted to conspiring to distribute more than a million prescription pills. Chatmon operated pharmacies in Millville and Upper Deerfield Township previously. He conspired to traffic many pills, including opioids.

The company that owns the Cumberland Mall has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. PREIT announced Monday that it has filed for protection for its three malls, which also include the Moorestown Mall and the Cherry Hill Mall. Lenders have agreed to another $150 million in financing.
Coronavirus has directly impacted the Cumberland County Correctional Facility. Reports say that one inmate and four corrections officers have all tested positive for Covid-19 this week. The Daily Journal reports that 84 inmates were quarantined.
Former New Jersey Superior Court Judge Paul Porreca has died at the age of 85. The Millville resident passed away last month and his passing was announced this week. Porreca served two terms on the Millville City Commission and previously ran for Congress, and for a seat in the New Jersey State Senate.
