Toys ‘R Us is done. The toy retailer announced that it will close all of its stores in the United States, including stores in Atlantic City, Mays Landing, and Vineland. The store entered bankruptcy last September.

A shelter in place lockdown has ended at Cumberland Regional High School. New Jersey State Police confirm the school received a threat late Tuesday morning, investigated, and discovered that the threat was not credible in nature. The matter remains under investigation.
Thousands of customers of Atlantic City Electric remain without power as of Saturday at 8:00am due to the coastal storm. Many of the customers without power are in Cumberland County, but smaller outages remain in the southern Cape May County region. Community colleges in Cumberland and Gloucester counties may merge. The Daily Journal reports that Cumberland County College and Rowan College at Gloucester County are in talks regarding a merger. Freeholders from both counties are discussing ways of trying to improve education services.
The lockdown Thursday morning at Cumberland County College for a hostile intruder alert has been lifted. The lockdown was lifted shortly after 11am and no further details were released. The college website posted a message that said “All Clear – Return to Normal Activity”. More information will be released as it becomes available.
A 38 year old prison inmate who was incarcerated for entering the United States illegally from Mexico died following an altercation at a prison in our region. The Daily Journal reports that Salomon Hernandez-Vega died after injuries he sustained at the Federal Correctional Institution Fairton, in South Jersey. No staff were injured during the altercation.
A 22 year old Vineland woman was killed Friday during a motor vehicle accident on Route 49 in Maurice River Township. State Police say Destiny Galafa died in Friday night’s crash near milepost 42. Her vehicle crossed into a westbound lane and collided with a pickup truck. So far, no charges have been filed.
A 49 year old Williamstown man has been arrested and charged with a robbery at a Wawa convenience store in Upper Deerfield this month. Hiral Washington was arrested after police followed up on leads that were posted on social media. Washington stole coffee and cigarettes from the store on January 8th.
A former staffer for Senator Cory Booker will challenge Jeff Van Drew for the democratic nomination for a congressional seat in our district. 32 year old Williams Cunningham of Vineland announced his candidacy on Tuesday. Cunningham held a kickoff event at a church in Vineland.
