GAFFNEY RECOGNIZED FOR ACHIEVEMENTS FOR CAPE MAY

Cape May city officials took time to honor and recognize former mayor Jerry Gaffney during a public meeting on Wednesday.  Gaffney was recognized for 16 years of elected service, including two stints as mayor.  Gaffney was instrumental in the development of the Cape May water desalination plant.

IT’S WEST CAPE MAY PARADE WEEKEND IN GREATER CAPE MAY

It’s parade weekend in West Cape May.  The Cape May Police Department released a statement saying the six hour parade will step off at 4pm on Saturday, and will travel through both West Cape May and Cape May.  If it’s raining, the parade will be moved to Sunday instead.

CAPE MAY TO HOST TOWN HALL MEETING ON WEDNESDAY

Cape May will be holding a town hall meeting Wednesday night.  Mayor Chuck lear is expected to lead a question and answer session with members of the public, and various updates will be provided by public officials.  The meeting will be held at the Cape May Convention Center Wednesday at 7pm.

DANIEL COHEN, WELL KNOWN COMMERCIAL FISHERMAN, 63

The Cape May commercial fishing community is mourning the loss of Daniel Cohen, who passed away Monday at the age of 63 after a battle with cancer.  Cohen managed Atlantic Cape Fisheries in the Cape May area and worked with educational experts to advance fishing interests.  Services are being held Sunday in Ventnor.

REPORT: CAPE MAY COULD CONSIDER HIKE IN PARKING METER FEES

Cape May’s council winners appear to be Deputy Mayor Shaine Meier, Stacy Sheehan, and Zack Mullock.  The Cape May Star and Wave reports that Mullock was the top vote getter with 626 votes, with Sheehan receiving 558, and Meier, 446.  These figures do not include mail in or provisionals ballots, and the results are unofficial.

CAPE MAY TO DISCUSS UPDATED LAFAYETTE PARK PLAN

Cape May’s city council meets Tuesday and is expected to discuss some updates to the Lafayette Street Park plan.  Council may adopt the changes to the plan via resolution at the meeting.  Cape May may also submit a grant application to the State for the reconstruction of Pennsylvania Avenue between Brooklyn and Baltimore avenues.

SERVICES FRIDAY FOR BROR AXELSSON, FOUNDER OF FISH COMPANY

Funeral services will be held Friday in Lower Township for the founder of the Axelsson and Johnson Commercial Fish Company in Cape May. Bror Axelsson passed away a week ago Sunday.  Axelsson is survived by his wife, and seven children.

CAPE MAY TO ADDRESS “OPEN” BANNERS IN BUSINESS DISTRICT

Cape May’s city council will meet Tuesday and will discuss a new ordinance that will govern how and when “open for business” banners can be displayed in the business district.  The council meeting begins at 6pm.
