The lights largely stayed on in our region during the blizzard. Atlantic City Electric is reporting only spotty outages in a few areas of South Jersey Friday morning. Strong winds following the storm put distribution lines at risk, but no large outages were reported in our area.

The National Weather Service has issued a Wind Chill Advisory for Cape May County for wind chill values approaching -10 Friday night, and again on Saturday night. Winds could gust above 40mph today which will make it feel very cold, very quickly.
Cape May County has cancelled its reorganization meeting that was scheduled for 5pm Thursday. County officials say the meeting will be rescheduled at a later date. Two freeholders and a new sheriff were expected to take their oaths of office.
New Jersey Governor Chris Christie has declared a State of Emergency for Cape May County. The emergency declaration also extends to Atlantic, Ocean, and Monmouth counties. All state offices are closed for the day. Christie is asking people to remain off the roads throughout the day.

The power is largely still on in South Jersey. As of Thursday at 7:15am, Atlantic City Electric only reports a few people without power, and they are in the Hammonton area. The winter storm is expected to cause some power interruptions due to strong winds and heavy snow on some distribution lines.

The United States Coast Guard is advising all mariners about icing conditions that exist on the Delaware Bay and area tributaries. Icing has formed on the Bay, along with the Cape May Harbor and Canal, and the Intracoastal Waterway. Ice-related restrictions are broadcast by the Coast Guard five times per day to mariners.
Cape May County will swear in its 100th sheriff in County history on Thursday. Robert Nolan will be sworn in during a reorganization meeting late Thursday afternoon. Also being sworn in to additional terms in office will be freeholders Jeffrey Pierson and Will Morey.
