Cape May County Freeholder Director Gerry Thornton is expected to deliver his State of the County address on March 19th. The Cape May County Chamber of Commerce announced that Thornton will deliver his remarks during a chamber luncheon at Icona/Avalon.
The Cape May County Prosecutor’s Office has created a liaison between law enforcement and the LGBTQ community. County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland announced that Lt. Joseph Landis will be the official liaison for the County. Sutherland says the new position was created in part due to the increase in bias crimes in the State.

Various reports suggest former Cape May County GOP leader and former assembly candidate Michael Donohue has stepped down from his position as a Superior Court judge. Donohue is expected to further explain his decision to return to the private sector this week. Donahue reportedly left his seat on the bench last week.
Cape May County Freeholders approved a resolution asking the state to commit more funding towards beach replenishment projects. The effort to increase the funding has been a longstanding position of the Jersey Shore Partnership. The state has not increased any money in the fund for more than two decades.
Cape May County’s health department is taking steps to address the Coronavirus concerns. The department has reached out to health care providers and schools with information about the illness. Cape May County is considered to be a low threat to be exposed to the virus.
Gasoline prices took a spike in Cape May County over the past week. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that gas prices have gone up by seven cents a gallon in just one week to an average of $2.52 locally. We are now six cents above the national average, and four cents above the state average.
Fire budgets were approved last weekend in Middle, Lower, Upper, and Dennis townships. Voters also approved the construction of a new firehouse in Goshen by a scant 15 votes.
Gasoline prices continue their downward trend in Cape May County. A new gas price survey by Mid Atlantic AAA puts the price for gasoline at $2.45 per gallon, three cents a gallon lower than it was one week ago. We are three points below the state average, but two pennies higher than the national average.
Cape May County GOP Chairman Marcus Karavan will be seeking his second term as head of the local republican party. Karavan has been endorsed by every republican mayor in the County as he seeks reappointment. Karavan issued his letter of intent for the seat just over a month ago.
