Gasoline prices continue to climb in New Jersey in advance of the summer season. Mid Atlantic AAA reports that prices went up by an average of five cents per gallon last week to an average of $2.81 in New Jersey. We are still two pennies below the national average.
Congressman Jeff Van Drew has just over $80,000 in his campaign war chest. NJ.com reports that democrats around the state are raising money for next year’s congressional elections; Van Drew and other freshman democrats are being targeted by republicans in a few New Jersey congressional races.
Thousands of beaches were cleaned up around the Garden State on Saturday as part of Clean Ocean Action’s beach sweeps. Sweeps were held in many local shore communities as volunteers picked up everything from non recyclable plastics to tires.
It’s a beach sweep weekend in many shore resorts this weekend. Clean Ocean Action is holding beach sweep events in many communities this weekend, including Wildwood Crest, Sea Isle City, and Avalon. The event is held to remove some of the human-created litter on the beaches in advance of the summer season.
The cost of tuition is going up at Atlantic Cape Community College. The Press of Atlantic City reports that the Board of Trustees at the college approved a $14 per credit tuition increase earlier this month. College officials say they are refining their offerings.
Republican freeholders may have a fight in this year’s election. The Press of Atlantic City reports that former Middle Township Committeeman Steve Barry and attorney Elizabeth Casey will seek the freeholder seats currently occupied by Gerry Thornton and Marie Hayes. Petitions were due by April 1st.
Cape May County drivers are paying approximately $2.69 for a gallon of gas. That’s up by 20 cents over one month ago, and two pennies higher than last year. New Jersey is still behind the national average, at $2.74 per gallon.
Several communities are seeking volunteers for various beach sweeps they are having in conjunction with Clean Ocean Action, on Saturday April 13th. Communities including Avalon, Wildwood Crest, and Sea Isle City are holding the events to make a portion of their beaches cleaner in advance of the summer tourism season.
Cape May County Surrogate Dean Marcolongo has been named to serve on the Judiciary Surrogate Liaison Committee by the New Jersey Supreme Court. His three year term will run through the end of 2021. The Committee will discuss various concerns affecting the Judiciary and Surrogates throughout the state.
Michael Testa will be the republican party’s candidate to oppose democrat Bob Andrezjczak in the November election. The Cape May County GOP met in Avalon last night and also selected Lower Township Mayor Erik Simonsen and Antwan McClellan of Ocean City to seek the assembly seats held by democrats Bruce Land and Matt Milam.
