Gasoline prices continue to slowly come down in Cape May County. The latest gas price survey by AAA Mid Atlantic shows that the average price for a gallon of gas in our area is $2.52 per gallon, down a penny from the week before. We are still four cents below the state average.

State Senator-elect Mike Testa will be sworn in today. Testa replaces Congressman Jeff Van Drew, who vacated the office to take a seat in Congress. Testa’s running mates, who were also victorious in last month’s elections, will be sworn in next month.

Some chain retailers got a start on the Black Friday shopping day on Thursday night. Middle Township Police were at the Walmart in Rio Grande Thursday night as huge crowds packed the discount retailer. Some other chain stores in the county, including Five Below, Ross, and dollar stores were also open for business Thanksgiving evening.
Gasoline prices in Cape May County continue to drop in advance of the Thanksgiving holiday. The latest gas price survey puts the price of a gallon of gasoline locally at $2.57, which is a penny south of the state average. Only Burlington County has lower gas prices in southern New Jersey.
Code Blue is in effect in Cape May County from Wednesday at 6pm until the following morning. The Code Blue designation means that municipalities shall provide for some temporary shelter from the cold for those who need it in their communities. Overnight temperatures are expected to remain below freezing.

There were critical defeats for the local democratic party in last night’s elections. Democrats lost their only seat on the Middle Township committee, both freeholder races, and all three legislative seats previously held by democrats. Democrats also failed to earn seats in Dennis Township and Upper Township municipal elections.
