Cape May County is reporting the deaths of two women from our area who are the latest casualties from coronavirus. There were 59 new cases reported on Thursday. Now under, the vaccination of police and fire personnel who are considered to be Phase 1B.
Cape May County reported 91 new cases of coronavirus on Wednesday. County officials say there were 35 new cases in Middle Township. Only Cape May Point, Sea Isle City, and West Wildwood reported no new cases on Wednesday.
The new Cape May County Commission will have a swearing in ceremony this afternoon. Incumbents Will Morey and Jeffrey Pierson will take their respective oaths of office. The former freeholder board will now be known as the County Commission. The event begins at 5:00pm.

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy took to social media to take a hard shot at Congressman Jeff Van Drew, once a democrat and now a republican. Murphy chided Van Drew for going along with “conspiracy theorists” over alleged fraud in the presidential election. Murphy also questioned the legacy that Van Drew is creating for himself.

Freeholders are no longer freeholders, starting New Year’s Day. In New Jersey, the title of “freeholder” will switch to “County Commissioner” starting on Friday. The name “freeholder” was considered offensive by some. A bill abolishing the title “freeholder” was approved in Trenton this summer.
