A new Veterans Affairs clinic is coming to Cape May County. Congressman Frank LoBiondo announced Friday that the clinic has funding in place, and more details will be forthcoming. Cape May County has nine percent of the veterans population in the State of New Jersey.
Amy Andersen of Cape May Court House is the 2017-18 Governor’s Teacher of the Year. The State Board of Education announced the selection of Andersen this week, who works for the Ocean City School District as an American Sign Language teacher. Andersen has been teaching sign language in the district for 13 years.
Sad news coming from the Cape May County Park and Zoo today. Zara, a young female snow leopard who was introduced to the public three months ago has died after an acute illness. Zara’s mother and sister are now being monitored closely to ensure they remain in good health.
Official public swearing in ceremonies will be held for two new Cape May County judges, Susan Sheppard and Christine Smith. The public ceremony will be held Thursday afternoon at the Old Court House Building on North Main Street. Sheppard used to serve as a freeholder, and as a surrogate.
A pond restoration project is underway at the Cape May County Park and Zoo. The restoration will impact three ponds and Holmes Creek at the Zoo and is being funded by a $500,000 grant. During the restoration work this fall and next spring, a 50-foot safety buffer will be erected around the ponds.

Governor Chris Christie announced that Johnson has been sworn in to replace Robert Taylor, who’s resignation is effective on Friday. Johnson has served as an Assistant Prosecutor for the past five years and is a graduate of Wildwood High School.
It’s the end of a career for Cape May County Prosecutor Robert Taylor. Taylor has reached the retirement age of 70 for a prosecutor and announced that he’s through on Friday. Welcome “Walter” the camel to the Cape May County Park and Zoo. Freeholder Marie Hayes announced that the new camel came from Animal Adventure Park in New York. Walter is a Bactrain camel and is six months old Bactrain camels have two humps, not one.
