COAST GUARD: ICING CONDITIONS ESTABLISHED ON DELAWARE BAY, OTHER WATERWAYS

The United States Coast Guard is advising all mariners about icing conditions that exist on the Delaware Bay and area tributaries.  Icing has formed on the Bay, along with the Cape May Harbor and Canal, and the Intracoastal Waterway.  Ice-related restrictions are broadcast by the Coast Guard five times per day to mariners.

COUNTY TO GET 100TH SHERIFF, BOB NOLAN, ON THURSDAY

Cape May County will swear in its 100th sheriff in County history on Thursday.  Robert Nolan will be sworn in during a reorganization meeting late Thursday afternoon.  Also being sworn in to additional terms in office will be freeholders Jeffrey Pierson and Will Morey.

VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE PROGRAM IN CAPE

Cape May County announced it’s looking for volunteers for the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program.  The program involves the preparation of tax forms, assists with meals on wheels deliveries, and mentoring pre-school children.  Freeholder Jeff Pierson announced that anyone who wants to help with tax form preparation would get training by the IRS.

Wildwood businessman Brendan Sciarra is the new Chairperson of the Cape May County Democratic Committee.  Sciarra replaces Jeff Sutherland, who was appointed to be the new prosecutor for Cape May County.  The announcement was made on the democrats’ social media page.

Cape May County will likely make an investment into a homeless, after hours helpline.  The County freeholders meet the day after Christmas and may authorize a deal that will establish the hotline service.  The Division of Social Services would be in charge of the hotline.

SUTHERLAND SWORN IN AS NEW CAPE MAY COUNTY PROSECUTOR

Jeffrey Sutherland was sworn in Thursday as the new prosecutor for Cape May County.  Sutherland replaces Robert Taylor, who retired at the end of November.  New Jersey Attorney General Christopher Porrino says Sutherland has a wealth of legal experience and is eminently qualified to assume the office.

Jeff Sutherland will be sworn in as the new Cape May County Prosecutor on Thursday.  The Prosecutor’s Office announced that Sutherland will be sworn in at the Old Historic Court House Building late Thursday morning.  He used to serve as the leader of the Cape May County Democratic Party.
