REPORT: CAPE MAY COUNTY #1 IN STATE…IN STD’S

Cape May County leads the state in sexually transmitted diseases, if you believe a new report from NJ Advance Media.  The report says STD’s have risen by 25 percent in the Garden State over a four year period, ending in 2016.  Cape May County has 442 cases per 100,000 people, an 84% increase.

TODAY IS TEST DAY FOR COUNTY’S CODE RED ALERT SYSTEM

Today was the test day for the new Code Red telephone alert system being used by the Cape May County Office of Emergency Management.  The system was to be tested on Thursday with an estimated 100,000 county residents scheduled to receive the test call.  The system will be used to alert individuals to county-wide emergencies.

PRESIDENT SIGNS BILL TO EXTEND NATIONAL FLOOD INSURANCE PROGRAM

President Trump on Tuesday signed a federal bill into law that extends the National Flood Insurance Program through the end of November.  The program was set to lapse on the morning of August 1st; now an extension is in place.  The program provides flood insurance premiums for those who’s homes are at risk.

COUNTY PROSECUTOR WARNS OF FRAUDULENT CHECK SCAM

Cape May County Prosecutor Jeffrey Sutherland is warning the public about a recent fraudulent check scam.  Sutherland says during the month of July many law enforcement officials have received complaints of fraudulent checks attempting to be cashed from legitimate business accounts.  Businesses are advised to check their operating accounts.

LOBIONDO ANNOUNCES FUNDING FOR SOUTH JERSEY AIRPORTS

Congressman Frank LoBiondo has announced that he has secured just over $2 million in funding for five airports in our region.  Among the airports getting funding are the Woodbine Municipal Airport, the Cape May County Airport and the Ocean City Municipal Airport.  The funding will be used for various improvements.

The National Republican Congressional Committee has bailed on local congressional candidate Seth Grossman.  The Committee on Monday withdrew its endorsement of Grossman after he allegedly shared a report on social media from a white supremacist website.  The Committee has even called on Grossman to “reconsider his candidacy”.
