Avalon has earned a major environmental achievement award. On Friday, Avalon was honored by ANJEC for presenting a pollinator habitat and beach side science lecture series this past summer. The effort was a product of the Avalon Environmental Commission. The Borough received the award during an Environmental Congress meeting Friday.

Avalon is beginning a project to conduct a major expansion of its firehouse. Fencing has been established around the rear perimeter of the firehouse for the work that will begin this month. The new addition will create more room to house equipment and provide better accessibility for firefighters and the public.
Avalon officials are going to pursue a dredging permit that would include the entire community. Council heard discussion Wednesday on a proposal from its engineer that would survey the entire community and pursue a permit that would allow Avalon to dredge when necessary.

Avalon has concluded an emergency dredging project in Pennsylvania Harbor. The Borough’s contractor wrapped up the project on Wednesday and demobilized equipment on Thursday. A shoaled in area of the Harbor was cleaned up during this project.
A big lifeguard competition scheduled for Sunday evening in Avalon has been moved to Tuesday. The Kerr Memorials were supposed to be held Sunday evening, but a small craft advisory postponed the event until Tuesday. The event will be held on Avalon’s beach at 6:15pm.
Avalon’s Borough Council has approved an emergency dredging project for a portion of Pennsylvania Harbor. An accumulation of hard, sandy dredge material has formed on the westerly limits of the harbor, making navigation difficult. A Notice of Award was provided to the contractor today.
